Monaco

Hotels Monaco

Monaco is an independent State on the Mediterranean Sea, on the French Riviera, half-way between Nice and the Italian border.
It has a population of nearly 35 000 with large French, Italian and British communities. The official language is French but English and Italian are both understood and spoken. The currency used is the Euro.

The weather in Monaco is typically Mediterranean in that it is particularly mild with more than 300 days of sunshine each year. In March the average temperature ranges from 9 to 14 degrees Celsius.

Meetings

The sessions of the IOPC Funds' governing bodies will take place from 11 to 14 March 2008 in the
Monte-Carlo Sporting Complex (Avenue Princesse Grace) situated on the sea front, on the eastern side
of the Principality (marked 36 yellow on the attached map).
The complex is served by the number 6 bus from Monaco (www.cam.mc).

Airport

The closest international airport is Nice – Côte d'azur situated 25 km outside Monaco.
It is France's second largest airport and is used by 51 airline companies, linking 96 destinations of which 76 are international.
There are several daily direct flights between London and Nice – Côte d'azur (British Airways, Air France, BMI and Easyjet).

Transport

From Nice – Côte d'azur airport, Monaco can be reached by several modes of transport:
- Bus (www.rca.tm.fr):
By the number 110 bus, with departures every hour every day, the transfer time to Monaco is under an hour.
The cost of a return ticket is 26 Euros (based on the 2007 price list).
This is the least expensive mode of transport as well as one of the most practical since the 110 bus stops in front of all the main hotels in Monaco.

Various car-hire companies can be found at the airport. The journey time to Monaco is approximately 30 minutes via the motorway and 45 minutes via the coast road.
- Helicopter (www.heliairmonaco.com) :

There is also a helicopter shuttle service which runs between Nice airport and Monaco operating 50 round trips every day.
From the Monaco heliport, passengers are then transferred free of charge to their hotel.
The cost of a return ticket is from 190 Euros (based on 2007 price list).

Hotels

Mid-range

  • Colombus Hotel: Situated in La Condamine, the Colombus Hotel is co-owned by successful Glaswegian hotelier Ken McCulloch, designer Amanda Rosa and British F1 racing driver David Coulthard (all Monaco residents today). There is an excellent restaurant and the lobby is a great spot to relax on the comfortable sofas. Rooms are modern. The hotel is located just by the heliport, and about 200 meters from the Stade Louis II.
  • Hotel Ambassador, corner of ave Prince Pierre, (info@ambassadormonaco.com). Suprisingly standard mid range hotel that is good value for business travellers and those watching their euros. Rooms are kitted out with the usual TV, mini bar air con, with wi fi access and cable making it a nice touch.
  • Hôtel Cosmopolite, 4 rue de la Turbie, tel 93-30-16-95 (fax: 93-30-23-05). Simple hotel that is well priced given the hotels location. There's no elevator, and only some rooms have bathrooms, but its reasonably cheap and the hotel owner, Madame Gay Angèle is welcoming and makes you feel right at home. 75€-105€ ($98-$137) double without bathroom; 80€-180€ ($104-$234) double with bathroom.
  • TwilightBlue Hotels, [12]. Selection of Hotels in Monaco. €80-€150.
  • Bw Hotel Prince De Galles. checkin: 12:00; checkout: 11:00. Facing the Mediterranean, with panoramic terrace and bar, lush tropical garden and Mediterranean Restaurant.

Splurge

  • Hotel Hermitage, Square Beaumarchais, tel 98-06-59-77. Perched on a clifftop, the Hermitage offer idylic living at its best. The majority of rooms have balconies, so guests can have stunning views from their rooms. While the hotel is quite old, all amenities and features and modern and elegant in their styling and a stay here is truly well deserved. The SBM's Carte d'Or offers the Hermitage's guests transport and access to the facilities of the Monte Carlo Beach Hotel and Les Thermes Marins spa. 320€-528€ ($416-$686) double; 568€-792€ ($738-$1,030) junior suite; from 1,596€ ($2,075) suite.  
  • Hotel de Paris, Place du Casino, tel 92-16-30-00 (fax: 92-16-26-26). Offering a level of sophistication that has awarded itself as one of the world's most famous hotels. Featuring marble pillars, crystal chandeliers, Louis XVI chairs, and sumptous carpets, its a vision of luxury and a favorite amongst the world's travellers. Rooms are simply enormous with marble and brass furnishings and the hotel is home to the country two finest eating establishments, the Le Grill de l'Hôtel de Paris and Le Louis XV. The SBM's Carte d'Or offers the de Paris' guests transport and access to the facilities of the Monte Carlo Beach Hotel and Les Thermes Marins spa. 400€-940€ ($520-$1,222) double; from 1,995€ ($2,594) suite.
  • Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort, 40 av. Princesse Grace, tel 98-06-02-00 (fax: 98-06-00-03). Awe impressive 4-hectare (10-acre) resort. The high price reflect the quality of stay. Only steps away from Monte Carlo's beachy sands, more than than 3/4 of rooms open onto sea views. Marble bathrooms feature flat screen tvs with cable ties, the hotel pool has an indoor pool covered with an ornate glass dome, and the hotel bar is none other than Jimmy'z's. The furnishings are sandstone floors, soft Mediterranean pastels and sleek modern amenities. The service to detail is outstanding, different shampoos and towels on different days, and the staff are polite and attentive without being intrusive. The SBM's Carte d'Or does not offer the Bay Hotel's guests access to the facilities of the Monte Carlo Beach Hotel or Les Thermes Marins. The Bay Hotel is rather self-contained, but lacks a beach. €300€-800 double; €750-1,400 suite

The Government of Monaco has pre-booked, specifically for participants, a limited number of rooms at preferential rates in several hotels.
- Monte-Carlo Bay (www.montecarloresort.com): a 4 star hotel (marked 6 blue on the map) in the immediate vicinity of the conference centre. Rooms are guaranteed at 225 Euros per night (taxes included).

Reservations should only be made via a dedicated website available specifically for the event at www.iopcf.resa.sbm.mc
- Monte-Carlo Beach (www.montecarloresort.com): a 4 star hotel (marked 7 blue on the map), a few hundred metres from the conference centre.
Rooms are guaranteed at 205 Euros per night (taxes included).
Reservations should only be made via a dedicated website available specifically for the event at www.iopcf.resa.sbm.mc

- Novotel (www.novotel.com):a recently opened 3 star hotel in Monaco situated on Boulevard Princesse Charlotte (not yet shown on the map but close to the point marked 10 red on the map). Rooms are guaranteed from 140 Euros per night (taxes included).
Reservations should be made by completing a booking form available on the IOPC Funds' website which should be sent directly to the hotel by fax.
The rates in these hotels are guaranteed for the period Monday 10 to Saturday 15 March 2008. These rates include up to two persons per room as well as breakfast for up to two persons.
The number of rooms pre-booked in each hotel is limited and delegates are advised to make their reservation as soon as possible and by 8 February 2008 at the latest, when all reservations (at the preferential rates) will be closed for these hotels.

Reception
A reception will take place on Thursday 13 March from 6 pm.

Restaurants
There are no restaurants open at midday at that time of year in the complex in which the meetings will
take place. Several restaurants can, however, be easily found outside or in the hotels within the
immediate vicinity.

Communications
The Sporting Complex has free wireless internet access. Computers with internet access will also be available for delegates' use.

Visa

As entry to Monaco can only be made through a point of entry in France, delegates must respect the
entry requirements which apply in the Schengen zone.
A list of countries whose citizens need a visa to enter the Schengen zone is displayed on the abovementioned
website. A visa can only be issued if all the necessary formalities are carried out and an application is made to a
French Embassy.

Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport lies a few miles east of the centre of Nice. Terminal 1 handles international
flights; Terminal 2 handles Paris and other flights from France.
Once you arrive in Nice there are a variety of methods you can use to continue your journey to Monaco.
All of following services are well posted as passengers exit the arrivals area.

Coach
There is a coach service between the airport and Monaco. The single fare is €13.80 and the journey via the
motorway takes approximately 45 minutes.

Train
A coach service runs from the airport to the train station in Nice at a single fare of €3.51 where a train can
be taken to Monaco. Journey time is approximately 35 minutes and a single fare is €6.50. Transfer by taxi
from Monaco station to the hotel is approximately; €11.50.

Taxi
Taxis pick up passengers in front of both airport terminals. It is advisable that fixed rate coupons be bought
from offices outside both terminals at a cost of 68.60 one way.

Helicopter
The Heli Air Monaco service operates from both terminals and the journey to Monaco takes less than 6
minutes. ICSC has negotiated an attractive price for all Conference delegates.
